Manafort Gets Special Treatment For Keeping Quiet
Paul Manafort was going to be sent to Rikers Island, which is a tough prison in New York. Then Trump's Department of Justice sent him to a cushy prison in New York instead. He was in a cushy minimum security prison in Pennsylvania.
Here's a rundown of the scenarios that led to this transfer happening. None of them are good and indicate that Paul Manafort is being rewarded for his refusal to cooperate with investigators. Trump's other confederates may take note and refuse to be helpful.
There is an easy solution. Prosecute at the state and local level. This preempts the federal government and won't let defendants get pardons or special treatment in prison. New Jersey should move forward with immigration fraud prosecutions. New York should do the same. New York can prosecute the Trump Foundation. They can also go after his taxes and other financial crimes. Pennsylvania and Michigan authorities can both look into Alfa Bank. Trump's political and business associates would be prosecuted. His family would also get prosecuted.
If you do this his family and associates will have a choice: truly cooperate or spend a long time in tough prisons.
